I recently had the opportunity to work with Fantastic Negrito.
I had an all-access pass to film the Grammy-winning artist at The UC Theatre.
When I sat down with Fantastic Negrito before the show, he told me that we need to be bold. He said that Oakland fosters fearlessness - and that the onus was on us to be different.
Fantastic Negrito's manager, Field, is incredibly humble. He rides a bike. He makes a point to talk to everyone involved in the production of one of their shows. We've talked at length many times. He's heard my thoughts on the world. And he may not always agree with me, but he never tried to silence me.
So many people tried to stop me from being honest about how I saw this universe. But I learned how to use the camera to articulate my vision and surrounded myself with forward-thinkers. Afterwards, some of the most inspiring people in our community supported my efforts.
